First, it is not free money! ERTC stands for Employee Retention Tax Credit and was developed as part of the CARE act, along with programs like the PPP loan.

But what makes the ERTC so different is that it is NOT a loan, it’s a cash credit that has no restrictions on how it is used and it never has to be paid back.

It rewards businesses who kept employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. It could be up to $26,000 per employee.

These are the key points to check off to determine if you most likely qualify: 

• If you had less than 100 full-time W-2 employees  that you paid in 2020 or less than 500 full-time W-2 employees in 2021
• You did/did not receive a PPP loan (either one is ok)
• You were affected by a full or partial shutdown
